Doctor Appointment and Battle Wounds

I went to the doctor on Tuesday and he confirmed that I am having twins. Of course, the picture from the ER doesn't lie.

Apparently I am in the high-risk category since I'm 40, so sick and having twins. I will be seeing a specialist of some kind (I want to say neonatal) for my ultrasounds (one every month) to check the growth of the babies. (I'm kind of getting used to saying babies.) I get to see my doctor every two weeks as well. Fun for me!

I am getting a picc line tomorrow so I can feel a little bit better and not throw up so much. Which reminds me, Kate told me she was excited for when she was a grown up and could have a baby and throw up just like me! I hope she gets her wish minus the throw up. Back to the picc. I went to an infusion clinic to get my picc yesterday and they were very hesitant to give me one because the risk of clots increase while pregnant. They tried 2 short IVs. The first didn't work and the second started working but after I had infused half of a bag of fluid the vein stopped working. My arm was aching and when I took a look it was the size of half of a baseball. At that point they decided my veins weren't great and I needed a picc.

Getting a picc is somewhat of a painful process. At least for me it is. If you have had a picc line and there was no pain then I guess I'm a wimp and I'm ok with that. The nurses at this clinic tried twice before they gave up. They were trying to thread the catheter and it kept getting stuck and of course they couldn't tell what it was getting stuck on. At one point they tried to really push it and it hit a nerve. Now that was painful!

I had a nurse come to my house today and on the second poke, she was able to get a short line in my hand. I felt like a kid on Christmas morning when I was able to start my fluids. Pretty sad, I know.

Oh yeah, I'm wearing maternity pants today and they feel great. I am, however, wearing a normal shirt, a very flowy normal shirt, that makes me look pregnant even when I'm not, but hey, it's a normal shirt which I'm sure I will not be able to wear for much longer.

I am leaving you with a few pictures. They are from all the poking a prodding I have received over the last few days. It will all be worth it in the end!

Do these wounds make my arm look fat?

Babies

Apparently there were several people who didn't scroll down to the bottom of the last post.

Scott is very excited about having 2 babies. He is however, really concerned about the names. I told him I have 2 girl names and 1 boy name floating around in my head. He let me know I needed to think of another boy name just in case we have 2 boys. He has started brainstorming names so we will have another boy name. Finally I told him I would wait to find out what I was having before I worry too much about another boy name.

Scott also asked how big the babies were right now. I told him they were about the size of a jellybean, maybe a bit bigger. John piped up and said, "Our babies are jellybeans?" Wouldn't jellybean babies be so much easier to take care of!

When I told Kate that we were having 2 babies her eyes lit up. She is very excited! I wonder how excited she will be when they actually arrive and she GETS to help me take care of them. Time will tell!

It's a shocker!!

It's been a long time. So it's probably a big shock to the few people reading this that I'm actually updating.

I've been sick, really sick, so sick that I took myself to the ER last night. I've been throwing up like crazy. Some of you may know what this means but for those who don't, I'll let you in on the secret. I'm pregnant! Only 9 weeks so I feel like I'm announcing a bit prematurely but if you were to see me and my sickly looking self you would probably guess that I was pregnant anyway. I just can't seem to hide my sickness.

Anyhow, back to the ER. The Dr. was really nice. Apparently his wife is pregnant with their 6th and they haven't told anyone, partially because of the reaction they will get. Kind of like some of the reactions I have been getting. I realize that I get really sick, no one needs to point that out and no, I'm not crazy for doing this. Back to the Dr. I asked him if I could have a little ultrasound to see the heartbeat since I haven't seen my Dr. yet. He agreed to that and said they wouldn't document anything and I wouldn't be charged for this "sneak peak."

Skip to ultrasound. The ultrasound tech found the heartbeat quite easily and I was relieved. Then I asked if there was just one baby (I ask every time). She said yes, only one. Whew! Relief! The baby measures 8 weeks 6 days which is right on track. Looks like my due date is February 26th.

Now for the rest of the story. After the tech said there was just the one baby, she moved the ultrasound wand and said, "Wait!" In my head I was screaming, "No, you can't say wait! You only get one chance on that question!" At that point I started to cry or sob or bawl is more like it. She kept moving the wand and then said there was a baby #2. Twins! Now that's the shocker!!!

We Thank Thee O God For A Prophet

Kate sings all the time. All. the. time. Today she was singing about Saturday. She told me it was a church song and wanted me to sing it because she couldn't remember all the words. I thought she was singing Saturday is a Special Day so I started to sing. She told me that wasn't the right song. I proceeded to listen to the tune she was humming and realized she was singing We Thank Thee O God For A Prophet. Then, I got it.

We thank thee O God for a prophet
To guide us in these SATURDAYS!

I'm thankful for a prophet who guides us in these Saturdays as well as the other days.:)

Scott's Birthday

I wanted to make Scott birthday special. He requested his favorite dinner and I decided to make his favorite breakfast for him. He usually has cold cereal. (When he was in 1st grade I would get up early and make a really good nutritious breakfast for him. After a few weeks he asked if he could just have cold cereal and that's the way it has been ever since.) He told me he liked waffles, bacon and hash browns. I got up early and set to work. I burned the first batch of bacon and got the hash browns a little too crispy. I made the waffles and gave everything to Scott in a loving manner.

He started to eat - a couple bites of hash browns, a couple bites of waffle, a couple bites of bacon. Then he asked if he could have cold cereal. Apparently nothing was very good. So much for a special birthday breakfast!

The party

The show went off without a hitch! I did get a hold of the company and they don't make confirmation calls - if you are on the schedule they will be there.

Anyway, it was a great party. When the reptile guy got here he said he was doing big shows and he could do the snake show or the full snake and reptile show for the same price as the snake show. Of course, Scott wanted the big show.

Here are a few pictures of the snakes and reptiles. There was a huge 15 foot snake and a little 12 inch snake, an 85 lb tortoise and a small alligator, just to name a few. The guy asked any boys who wanted to hold the huge snake to stand in a line. The snake weighed 150 lbs so he needed quite a few boys to hold it. As soon as he brought out the snake several of the boys ran away squealing. There were only 3 boys who wanted to hold it. Needless to say, it ended up on the floor.

Kate loved the small snake. I'm sure she would have kept it if they would have let her. It's name was Cheeto. We were talking about the snake a few days after the party and I ask her if she remembered the snake's name. She thought about it for a few seconds and said, "Chip." I had to laugh. This is the cake I made for the party. It actually was pretty easy and turned out pretty good if I do say so myself.

Scott

Tomorrow is Scott's friend birthday party. The theme is snakes and we are having a live snake show with 7 snakes and one is supposed to be huge. I have a problem though, I can't get a hold of the company that is supposed to be doing the snake show. I would have thought they would call and confirm. I checked their calendar and there is a party listed at the time I scheduled, but there was no down payment required so I am still nervous. What am I going to do with 12 boys if there is no show. I'm hoping and praying for the best.

Scott came home from school the other day with some papers. I usually look over the answers that he missed to see why. Apparently, they had read a book in class about planting something (I don't remember what) and the question was, "What did you learn about planting _______?" His answer was nothing. I thought that was funny. I have to say I was surprised that he got the answer wrong, if he didn't learn anything, he didn't learn anything. I do have to say he is a man of few words.

Well, I'm sure I'll be blogging about the birthday party. I sure hope it's a success or I will have a lot of disappointed boys.
